G2 Esports turned one of their worst Warzone results into a championship run, winning the Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence Series at the Esports World Cup 2026.
The trio of Anthony “Anziety” Moran, Ashton “Bigman” Ezard and Aarondeep “Cythe” Dhami survived an exhausting 11-game Grand Final in Paris. Five teams reached match point before G2 finally shut the door with a huge performance in the last game.
It was not a quiet finish either.
G2 recorded 26 kills in Game 11, securing the title, $250,000 in prize money and 1,000 points toward the EWC Club Championship.
G2 Closed the Final With a 26-Kill Statement
The championship was still wide open heading into the final map.
G2 had reached match point in Game 10, but four other teams were also in position to take the trophy. One strong game could decide the entire tournament. One poor rotation could end it.
G2 went aggressive instead.
Anziety, Bigman and Cythe combined for 26 kills in the final game, comfortably clearing the requirement needed to close the series. The performance ended an 11-map final in which the team rarely fell away from the leaders.
G2 placed outside the top five only twice across the Grand Final. The trio also led the entire field with 150 total kills, showing a level of consistency that is difficult to maintain in Warzone’s crowded and unpredictable lobbies.
A Fast Start Put G2 in Control
G2 did not spend the early part of the final trying to settle into the lobby.
The team placed inside the top three during each of the opening four maps, immediately building pressure on the rest of the field. Opposing squads eventually began challenging G2 more directly, which contributed to a rougher middle section of the final.
The damage had already been done.
G2 remained within reach of the match-point threshold and got there by Game 10. That gave the team two chances to finish the tournament, though it only needed one more.
Their run through the group stage had already suggested something bigger might be coming. G2 collected 235.2 points to finish second in Group B and qualify directly for the Grand Final. They entered the event as contenders, but not as the obvious team to beat.
G2’s Warzone Trio Completed a One-Year Turnaround
The victory carried extra weight because the same three players had endured a miserable result at the previous Esports World Cup.
Anziety, Bigman and Cythe finished 17th in 2025, missing the Grand Final completely. The result brought criticism from supporters and left the trio near the bottom of the event standings.
They stayed together.
The players had already spent several years competing as a unit, resisting the constant roster changes that are common across professional Warzone. G2 signed the trio in February 2026, giving them another opportunity to prove that the lineup could still win at the highest level.
That decision now looks rather good.
Cythe described the victory as a chance to prove the team’s doubters wrong after almost finishing last the previous year. Bigman called the result part of a storyline that felt “meant to be,” even joking that the deciding game felt more like a practice scrim than a championship match.
Anziety Earns Tournament MVP Award
Anziety added another prize to G2’s championship haul after being named the tournament’s Sony MVP.
The award came with a separate $25,000 bonus.
His individual performance helped drive G2’s 150-kill total across the Grand Final, but the reaction after the final game was less controlled. Anziety said he had lost his voice from shouting and struggled to describe the feeling of winning the tournament.
The MVP honour made sense. G2’s title was built on team chemistry, but Anziety repeatedly delivered in the moments when the lobby became chaotic.
G2 Collect $250,000 and 1,000 EWC Club Points
G2’s Warzone victory earned the organisation the tournament’s $250,000 first-place prize and 1,000 EWC Club Championship points.
Those points matter, although the club still has more work ahead.
G2 had failed to secure top-eight placements in the League of Legends and VALORANT competitions. The organisation therefore needs another top-eight result in either Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or Counter-Strike 2 to become eligible for the overall Club Championship.
Team Falcons, one of the favourites heading into the Warzone event, finished at the bottom of the Grand Final standings and collected no Club Championship points.
Warzone Resurgence Series Ends Its First Season at EWC
The 2026 competition marked the first full season of the Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence Series.
Qualification was spread across LAN events and online tournaments before the championship reached the Esports World Cup. Birmingham and Atlanta hosted the two major LAN stops, offering qualification places and a combined $200,000 in prize money.
Regional online qualifiers opened more routes into the season-ending tournament.
The EWC championship brought 32 teams into the wider competition, with 16 advancing to the Grand Final. The finalists competed for a share of a $1 million prize pool, but G2 walked away with the biggest cheque and the trophy.
Last year, the trio never reached the final.
This time, they were the last team standing.
