Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14 Brings Dark Gifts to Dalaran

Hearthstone Battlegrounds is about to get a darker, much less predictable makeover. Blizzard will launch Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14: Dark Gifts of Dalaran on August 4 at 10 a.m. PDT as part of Patch 36.2. The update adds a new Dark Gifts system, two heroes, the Activate keyword and more than 60 new minions.

Ratings will reset when the season begins, so players climbing the Battlegrounds or Duos ladders will start again from the bottom. Season 13 rewards earned but left unclaimed will be collected automatically.

Dark Gifts Add Another Decision to Every Lobby

Dark Gifts are the centrepiece of Season 14. Starting on Turn 3, players can spend three Gold to open the Dark Gift menu. Three minions will appear, with each one carrying a different enhancement. The bonuses can include raw stat increases, useful keywords or effects strong enough to change the direction of a build.

The button can only be used once per turn and three times across the entire match. There is a catch, though. The available minions and gifts become stronger as the game progresses.

That creates an uncomfortable choice. Take an early upgrade before the lobby gets dangerous, or save the Gold and gamble on something far nastier later. Blizzard says the system includes more than 40 Dark Gifts, giving players plenty of combinations to work around rather than one obvious path every match.

Nightmare Lord Xavius and Tras’tath Join the Hero Pool

Two new heroes will enter the Tavern when the season goes live. Nightmare Lord Xavius leans directly into the new mechanic. His Feel Devastation Hero Power allows him to Discover a minion carrying a Dark Gift every four turns.

Tras’tath, Soul Parasite takes a slower approach. Void Power lets the player Discover a Tier 5 minion with a Dark Gift at the beginning of the match. That minion remains unavailable until Turn 7, giving players time to shape their warband around a future power spike. Tras’tath looks especially awkward to play against. Everyone in the lobby knows a major Tier 5 threat is coming. They just do not know which one.

Activate Turns Gold Into Minion Abilities

Season 14 also introduces Activate, a keyword that gives certain minions abilities players can manually trigger during the Recruit Phase. Using an Activate ability costs Gold. While the minion remains in the warband, players can click it to trigger the effect once per turn.

That sounds simple until the economy starts getting tight. Spending Gold on an ability may produce more value than rolling the Tavern, buying another unit or pushing to the next tier. Minions such as Kelp Keeper, Private Investigator and Soulkeeping Jailer will be among the first cards built around the mechanic.

More Than 60 New Minions Shake Up the Tavern

The Battlegrounds minion pool is getting a heavy refresh rather than a handful of small additions. Blizzard is adding more than 60 new minions, including Air Baller, Devilish Distractor and Glambot. Several tribes will also receive mechanics that work differently from their usual scaling patterns.

Pirates can now uncover Lockboxes containing Golden minions. The reward stays locked until a later turn unless the player finds a way to break it open early. Bilgewater Breakout and Locked-up Mutineer are two minions tied to that strategy. Beasts are getting something stranger.

The new Fishbait mechanic allows Beasts to attack during the Recruit Phase, something the tribe has not previously been able to do. The attacking minion then earns a reward for taking the bait. Lurking Lionfish and Snarky Shark are among the cards supporting that setup.

Tavern Spells and Trinkets Expand Again

Five new Tavern Spells will join the pool in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14: Methodical Madness, Mighty Dragonbreath, Repair Job, Weapons Forge and Winner’s Bread. Trinkets are also staying for another season rather than rotating out to make room for Dark Gifts. Blizzard is adding 23 Lesser Trinkets and 24 Greater Trinkets, putting both systems into the same lobbies.

New Lesser Trinkets include Rune of Transmutation, Plaguerunner Portrait, Ominous Stone and Floating Candle Set. Greater options include Wolfhead Flail, Felsteel Cleaver, Dragon’s Eye, Trailblazer Sticker and Wax Lance. Dark Gifts already push players toward unusual builds. Combining them with a much larger Trinket pool should make reading an opponent’s strategy even harder.

Season 14 Rewards Feature Maiev and Vanessa VanCleef

The Battlegrounds Rewards Track will refresh alongside the update. Season Pass owners immediately receive two additional hero choices at the beginning of each game. Further progress unlocks cosmetics including 13 hero skins, a Vanessa VanCleef bartender and the Violet Hold Legendary Strike.

The upgraded Season Pass+ includes everything in the regular pass along with one hero reroll per match. Some rewards will not become available until Patch 36.6, but the main track opens when Season 14 begins on August 4.

Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14 Release Time

Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14 launches through Patch 36.2 on August 4, 2026, at 10 a.m. PDT. For players in the Philippines, that corresponds to approximately 1 a.m. on August 5, assuming the update arrives according to Blizzard’s published schedule.

With Dark Gifts, Activate minions and two major tribal mechanics arriving together, the early Season 14 meta will probably be messy. That may be the whole appeal. Familiar builds will still exist, but waiting for the perfect gift—or spending too much Gold chasing one—could decide a lobby before the final warbands ever meet.
