Cluj-Napoca Mayor announces three-year PGL event partnership

Announced through an Instagram post on February 22nd, the Mayor revealed that Cluj-Napoca will host an annual Counter-Strike tournament in the city in 2027, 2028, and 2029, cementing its place on the Tier 1 tournament calendar.

“Good news for esports fans in Cluj-Napoca and beyond,” said the Mayor. “We have extended our partnership with PGL for 2027, 2028, and 2029 so that we can continue to organise world-class esports competitions at the BT Arena in the coming years.”

PGL already has slots booked in for February 2027 and 2028, with the event set to maintain its mid-February slot in the Tier 1 calendar. As such, next year’s tournament is set to take place from February 11th to 22nd, while 2028’s event takes place from February 9th to 21st.

On February 22nd, 2026, Team Vitality swept aside Parivision in the Cluj-Napoca 2026 Grand Final to cement its place as the world’s best team. In 2015, the city also hosted a Major, with Envy lifting the trophy.

PGL’s Continued Growth

In recent years, PGL has cemented its place among the world’s leading esports tournament organisers, attracting several notable names to compete in its tournaments. Additionally, it has entered several partnerships to support its tournaments taking place across the world.

December 2025 saw PGL join forces with gaming furniture manufacturer Secretlab to provide players with consistent practice and on-stage environments across all PGL-operated tournaments taking place over the next 12 months.

Romania continues to play a key part in PGL’s Counter-Strike operations. In April and September, Bucharest will host Tier 1 tournaments in the organiser’s dedicated studio.
