The male and female medal events for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) at the 33rd SEA Games have concluded, with the Philippines and Malaysia securing gold medals, respectively.
For both teams, the medals were historic. For the Philippines, this marked the country’s fourth consecutive gold in MLBB’s men’s category. Malaysia, on the other hand, secured its first gold medal in the women’s category.

Taking place in Thailand, the 2025 SEA Games includes esports as a medal event. This means that any medals won are counted in the official national medal tally of the participating countries.
MLBB Men’s Category Sees the Philippines Dominate
In the MLBB men’s category, the Philippines completely dominated. The team came into the tournament as the defending champions and favourites to win it all — and that is exactly what it did.
The Philippines was placed in a tough group that consisted of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Laos. Despite this, the team dominated, winning all of its matches to top the table.
This momentum carried into the playoffs, where the Philippines faced Indonesia in the semi-finals. While Indonesia was able to open the series with a match win, the Philippines managed a clean reverse sweep to make it to the grand finals and guarantee itself a silver medal.
In the gold medal match, however, the Filipino team made light work of Malaysia, winning 4–0. In fact, match two lasted just under 10 minutes. Indonesia won the third-place match to take home the bronze.
Malaysia Secures First MLBB Gold Medal

Malaysia, a rising force in MLBB esports, made history in the women’s event by securing its first gold medal in the game. This also marked the second gold medal for the country in the esports category after Magic Chess: Go Go (MGCC). The MGCC gold, however, was just a demonstration match.
In a bracket that looked very similar to the men’s category, Malaysia ultimately faced the Philippines in the gold medal match. This time, however, it was a much closer affair, going to a seventh match, where Malaysia was able to take the win, securing the series 4–3.
Speaking after the compeitions Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, commented: “As the curtains close on MLBB’s campaign at the 33rd SEA Games, this tournament leaves behind more than just medalists—it reinforces esports’ place in the region’s sporting future, one where digital and traditional disciplines compete on equal footing, united by national pride and the pursuit of excellence.”
MLBB is also confirmed as a medal event at the 2026 Asian Games, marking the first time the title will be included.
