Mortal Kombat 1 is getting a balance patch soon but it may already be too late to keep the esports scene alive.
Over the weekend, Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Ed Boon revealed that a balance patch is ‘incoming soon’ on X (formerly Twitter). However, the FGC has a lot of requests if Mortal Kombat 1 is to be ‘saved.’

Mortal Kombat 1 has no DLC or content updates in the works (that ended in May after the Definitive Edition was released). However, NetherRealm Studios has promised to continue supporting the game with adjustments and fixes.
The last Mortal Kombat 1 patch was released back in August 2025. Since then, the Mortal Kombat community has felt largely left in the dark. The lack of support and communication has left the FGC frustrated and angry with the new Mortal Kombat title, which hasn’t lived up to expectations.
Mortal Kombat 1 is getting another update after all
Recently, Evo revealed the lineup for its 2026 event. While the FGC was excited to see new titles on the big stage, like Invincible VS and the return of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, it was immediately noticeable that Mortal Kombat 1 was missing.
The Mortal Kombat 1 community was saddened to see the game left from the lineup but also expected it. Mortal Kombat 1 had the lowest signup of all the games at Evo 2025, with competitive players largely fed up with the title’s Kameo system, simplified fighter movesets, and lack of updates. Some players even said it was NetherRealm’s fault the game was removed.
Will the upcoming balance patch keep players from leaving?
Probably not. In response to Boon’s announcement, Mortal Kombat players expressed some significant concerns. This included the removal of the the tag team system completely, although the new game relies heavily on Kameos so not even this would really fix how the game feels and plays.
