Aurora Gaming selected The MongolZ during the draft, making BLAST Bounty Season 2 the fourth time this year that the teams have played against each other during the Playoffs of a tournament.
The Mongolian side kicked off the series with a slender 13-11 victory on Aurora’s pick of Dust II to take the early series lead.
Still, the Turkish team weren’t out of the tournament yet, as it raced to a dominant 11-round lead on Mirage, meaning that The MongolZ required an unlikely comeback.
A one-versus-three clutch from Garidmagnai ‘bLitz‘ Byambasuren on the attacking side made all the difference for The MongolZ, securing its only offensive round of the map.
The defensive line of the Mongolians held strong in the second half, with the double AWP setup preventing any kind of Aurora attack from breaching onto the sites.
After overturning the eleven-round deficit, The MongolZ went on to force overtime, securing Mirage 16-13 to complete one of the greatest comebacks of the CS2 era.
What Next For The MongolZ?
As a result of defeating Aurora Gaming in the quarter-finals, The MongolZ has become the second team to advance to the semi-finals of BLAST Bounty Season 2, joining MOUZ, which defeated Astralis in the opening quarter-final match.
Between each round of the playoffs, teams are reseeded based on the opponent it defeated in the previous round. The team with the lower seed gets to select the next opponent from the higher-seeded teams remaining in the tournament.
On August 15th, the two other quarter-final matches take place, with Team Vitality taking on Team Liquid and Team Spirit facing off against Virtus.pro.
