FPS game Splitgate 2 is returning to its beta stage just a couple of months after its global launch on June 6th.
Moreover, the game’s developer, 1047 Games, will be laying off some of its employees as part of cost-cutting measures and to work on fixing Splitgate 2. Servers for the original Splitgate will also be taken down in a month.

In a statement, 1047 Games’ Co-Founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian agreed with the community’s criticism and acknowledged that they launched an unfinished product and made “boneheaded mistakes”.
“We’ve heard your feedback, and we agree with you: we launched too early. We had ambitious goals with Splitgate 2, and in our excitement to share it with you, we bit off more than we could chew,” the official statement read.
According to SteamDB, the game has already lost over 90% of its player base since June. Thus, the developers will be working until early next year on rebuilding the key elements of the game such as progression, monetisation and maps.
“We’re returning not just to our roots in what we build, but in how we build it – with you,” 1047 Games added.
Players will be able to participate in multiple playtests and share feedback with the developers before Splitgate 2 relaunches.
That said, fans can still be able to play the game normally and will also receive the Chapter 3 update, along with multiple bug fixes.
Shutting Down Splitgate’s Servers
Lastly, the decision to shut down Splitgate permanently stems from the fact that keeping its servers online was costing the studio a lot and would have resulted in a larger scale of layoffs.
“While we’d love to keep servers online indefinitely, it’s cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past couple of years, and we have to prioritize our team,” the company explained.
However, the good news is that once Splitgate 2 returns next year, the devs will be adding a dedicated experience focused on Splitgate for the OG fans.
