Dalian Polytechnic University in China has decided to expel a student over accusations of “improper contact with a foreigner,” which, according to them, “damaged national dignity.” This information was reported by the New York Times.
The expulsion followed a video that appeared online. In it, the student, whose name was published by the university, is shown in an intimate setting with Ukrainian esports player Danylo Teslenko, known by the nickname Zeus. Although Teslenko deleted the video and apologized, calling it “too personal,” the footage had already spread widely.
The university’s decision is based on internal rules concerning “civic morality.” However, critics point to double standards: men who have relationships with foreign women often receive approval, while women are punished for the same.
Teslenko, who arrived in Shanghai to participate in an esports tournament, initially posted the video on his Telegram channel, which has about 43,000 followers. However, when the video began to spread actively on Chinese social networks, he deleted it and apologized.
“I realized that although these clips were not intimate in nature, they were too personal and inappropriate for public sharing.”– Danylo Teslenko (Zeus)
“It was my mistake, and I sincerely apologize for it.”
He also commented on the situation in his posts on X, stating that he was sharing “just an ordinary moment from life,” not something “disrespectful.”
Despite his apology, screenshots and recordings continue to circulate widely online, which became the catalyst for the university’s decision.
Law professor Zhao Hong from Peking University condemned the university’s actions, considering them a violation of the student’s rights to privacy and education. She emphasized that the real “destroyers of national dignity” are those who publicly humiliate women.
At present, neither the university nor the student are commenting on the situation. Although the expulsion can be appealed within 60 days, the disclosure of the girl’s identity is irreversible. This incident highlights deep contradictions in Chinese society regarding morality and gender roles.
