ESL Impact Shuts Down
Back in October, ESL FACEIT Group announced that it would be shutting down the women’s Counter-Strike 2 esports circuit indefinitely following the conclusion of Season 8.
In its statement, the tournament organiser shared that the decision due to the economic model not being ‘sustainable.’
“Our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive esports ecosystem remains a core value for EFG,” ESL Impact added in a social media post. “So we will use this time to explore new, sustainable initiatives that will better align with our long-term vision.”
Both fans and players within the competitive Counter-Strike 2 community voiced their disappointment with the announcement, with some describing it as ‘the end of an era.’
“This absolutely cannot happen,” said Marco Mereu, co-founder and CEO of M80, in a reply. “There should be discussions with interested parties on how to save Impact. Full stop.”
