North American collegiate esports brand EsportsU has announced that the Collegiate Esports Commissioner’s Cup (CECC) May Madness event will take place in Waco, Texas, in 2026.
Taking place from May 1st to 3rd, the multi-title event will see collegiate esports players from across the United States for a chance to be crowned champion.

CECC May Madness 2026 is the culmination of a year-long esports season operated by Collegiate Sports Management Group (CSMG). Over 800 educational institutions across the United States participate in three divisions on one of the biggest stages for collegiate esports.
According to a release, over 2,000 students will attend the three-day event organised alongside the PlayVS College League, which will also host its 2026 Spring Championship.
“The growth we’re seeing—across conferences, universities, and student participation—shows just how fast scholastic esports is accelerating,” said Angela Bernhard Thomas, Chief Esports Officer at CSMG.
“CECC May Madness gives conferences a national stage to showcase their talent and embrace esports as a nationally recognised part of the modern collegiate athletics landscape.”
2026 marks the sixth edition of the CECC May Madness. For the past three years, the tournament has taken place in Arlington, Texas. Next year, the event moves to the Waco Convention Center, where it will play host to a multi-stage venue, fan experiences, and activations.
Collegiate Esports In 2025
Throughout 2025, collegiate esports in the United States has continued to grow. In April, PC hardware brand Alienware hosted its inaugural Apex Legends event in collaboration with Oversight Esports.
Founded in 2022, CECC May Madness remains one of the largest collegiate esports events in the country. CSMG reveals that last year’s tournament attracted over 5,000 in-person attendees in addition to a 27% increase in viewing figures from 2024’s tournament.
The CECC’s continued growth demonstrates the popularity of collegiate esports. With 25 official partners supporting May Madness, students have a dedicated platform and season-ending event to showcase their skills.
