The Fated Showdown at the Grand Finals
ONIC had established itself as a strong contender in the early stages of the tournament, placing first in the Regular Season. Moreover, it continued to excel in the Playoffs, going as far as defeating Alter Ego Esports 3-2 in the Upper Bracket Finals.
Alter Ego Esports clawed its way back to the Grand Finals by defeating EVOS 4-1 in the Lower Bracket Finals, looking to claim revenge. However, ONIC prevailed in a landslide 4-1 win to defend its champion title.
As the top two teams, both ONIC and Alter Ego Esports will represent Indonesia at M7 World Championship, the crowning event of the 2025 competitive season.
The victory established ONIC as the eight-time MPL Indonesia champion, but Alter Ego Esports also deserves its flowers for reaching the Grand Finals for the first time in 10 seasons.
“This victory is not only a testament to ONIC’s excellence, but a reflection of the growth and passion of the Indonesian esports community,” said Martinus H. Manurung, Head of Esports Ecosystem, MOONTON Games Indonesia.
“Indonesia has proven time and again that we are a global esports powerhouse, and M7 is our moment to show the world once more.”
MPL Indonesia Viewership
According to data from Esports Charts, MPL Indonesia Season 16 proved to be a viewership success. It attracted a peak viewership of over 3.09m, which was reached during the Grand Finals match. The tournament boasted over 101m hours watched, with an average viewership of nearly 460,000 users across an airtime of 220 hours.
In comparison to past MPL Indonesia events, it is the third most popular event in terms of peak viewership, falling behind Season 14 (4m) and Season 15 (4.1m).
Road to M7

The M7 World Championship will see the top 16 qualified teams from around the world, including Philippines, Malaysia, Latin America and others, compete for a $1m (~£760,000) prize pool.
The tournament will take place from January 3rd to 25th, 2026. It will feature a Wildcard Group Stage, a Swiss Stage, before concluding with a Double-Elimination Knockout Stage and BO7 Grand Final.
Early bird ticket sales for the international event sold out within hours, though ticket information can still be found on the official M7 World Championship web page.
Tiger Xu, Global Head of MLBB Esports at MOONTON Games, said: “The M7 is more than a tournament. It’s a moment of connection, where competition meets culture, and where passion meets purpose.
