MOONTON Games has announced a partnership with the Azerbaijan Esports Federation (AZESF) to develop Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports in the country.

As a part of the partnership, AZESF and MOONTON will launch the country’s first official MLBB esports tournament, which will feature an in-person final.

The first-ever official MLBB esports tournament for Azerbaijan will happen in September 2025. MOONTON said in a release that the event is set to feature online qualifiers, leading to an offline final. Other details regarding the event have not been disclosed yet.

Besides this, the AZESF will also integrate Mobile Legends: Bang Bnag into its University Esports League. Season one of the collegiate tournament wrapped up earlier this year with VALORANT and CS2. Now, the upcoming edition will include the mobile MOBA title.

“Baku has already proven itself on the world stage through top-tier events such as the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and we hope that the same spirit of excellence may be achieved in esports one day,” said Ajay Jilka, Head of Esports, Eastern Europe & Central Asia, and Emerging Markets at MOONTON Games.

“Our goal is to support the Federation in nurturing the next generation of MLBB players, offering them both regional and international opportunities to develop and showcase their skills.”

The esports federation is also set to open MLBB-focused monthly community tournaments, training programmes and streamer activations. Moreover, the Azerbaijan Esports Federation will work with telecom and tech partners to make mobile esports more accessible in the country.

“This partnership is more than symbolic—it’s a commitment to the youth of Azerbaijan who have shown growing interest in mobile esports,” added Ogtay Gasimzada, President of the AZESF.

“We are proud to be working with MOONTON Games to provide structure, opportunity, and visibility to MLBB players in our country.”

Azerbaijan Aims to Solidify Presence in MLBB Esports

Azerbaijan falls under the CIS region and has typically not been seen as a major name in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s esports ecosystem, even locally. Now, AZESF is attempting to change that.

The primary tournament for the region will be the MLBB Continental Championship, which is mostly dominated by Russian players. With a standalone local tournament, along with grassroots-level development, the AZESF aims to ultimately elevate local talent in the country.

It remains to be seen if the local esports tournament provides a pathway for Azerbaijan’s esports teams to the M7 World Championship.
