Blizzard Entertainment has released its latest limited-time mode for Overwatch 2, Hacks and Hijinx, running until July 28th, 2025.
Continuing Season 17’s eight-bit theme, Hacks and Hijinx is a 6v6 mode where Control matches gain modifiers, adding new rules and mechanics to the standard hero-shooter gameplay fans are used to.

Every round in Hacks and Hijinx will come equipped with two random modifiers, which will rotate with each new round. These modifiers can range from zero gravity to knock back melee attacks.
Here are all of the modifiers available during the Hack and Hijinx event in Season 17:
- Mini Maxing – All Heroes are 50% smaller, but health is reduced by 30%
- Lie Low – Crouch to cloak. Stay invisible until you act (or get too close)
- Fired Up – Gain a power boost when on fire. More damage/healing and faster cooldowns, but you’re visible to everyone
- Charge Pack – Health packs also charge your Ultimate
- Power Punch – Quick melee knocks enemies back
- Vampiric Healing – No passive HP regen; every character gains life steal
- Aerial Combat – Gravity drops, mid-air damage dealt and received spikes by 50%
- Back In Action – Respawn time reduced for faster returns (except during Overtime)
- Berserkers – No regen, but for every 10% HP lost, attack speed + cooldown reduction jumps 6%
- Super Jump – Characters jump 200% higher
- Motion Detection – Moving enemies within 25m are now visible through walls. Crouch to stay hidden
- Explosive – Everyone explodes upon death
- Hyper Speed – Everyone’s movement speed is now 30% faster
- Buff Hunt – One random Hero is buffed every minute with increased HP, damage, and Ultimate charge speed. Eliminating them steals the buff
- Damage pack– Health packs now grant +20% damage for 10–20 seconds (or until death)
- Fallen Comrade – Allies drop globes on death that boost damage, armour, and movement speed when collected
Completing challenges associated with the limited-time mode will net players with in-game rewards and XP. According to Blizzard, unlockable items include an eight-bit spray, weapon charm, player icon, an Epic loot box, ‘Hackerman’ title, and up to 55,000 Battle Pass XP.
Players still hungry for competitiveness during or after the event can look forward to Overwatch esports events. Hack and Hijinx will end shortly before the upcoming Overwatch Champion Series Midseason Championship, running from July 31st to August 3rd, 2025.
